100% on-device
Private voice-to-text for Mac.
Now free.
Hold a key, talk, and polished text lands in any app. Speech recognition runs on your Mac, and AI commands let you point at anything on screen and ask.
Capabilities
The whole toolkit, one hotkey away. Or none at all.
Everything below ships in the free app. No tiers, no unlocks.
March includes a one-time refund batch. Excluding it, revenue grew 8% month over month.
Ask AI about anything on your screen
Hold right ⌥ (the AI key), drag over a chart, an error, a design, any region at all, and ask. The answer appears in place. No screenshots, no app switching.
Flow Mode: no hotkey at all
Choose an app, say your activation phrase (“flow” by default), and just talk. Your words land in that app even while it stays in the background, and your pointer and focus stay untouched. Anything without the phrase never leaves this Mac and is discarded instantly.

Bring your own AI
Apple's on-device model, any OpenRouter model, or log in with your existing ChatGPT/Codex account. Optional fast mode gives 1.5× faster answers. Pick per feature, swap anytime.
Ship the site update today. The new notepad shows every word as I say it, and I can fix anything before it ever lands in the doc and the copy button is right there when I just want the text
Live dictation you can edit as you speak
The orb morphs into a small notepad while you talk. Words stream in live, and you can click in to fix anything before it's ever inserted. Powered on-device by Parakeet's live tail, or by the opt-in cloud engine. Prefer the classic minimal orb? Pick per engine.
Dictation that never phones home
NVIDIA Parakeet runs locally on Apple silicon. Fast, accurate, fully offline. Your audio never leaves the machine.
Per my previous correspondence, the deliverables remain outstanding. Talk soon.
Edit text with your voice
Select text in any app and hold right ⌥. The orb switches to edit mode. Say the change, and the rewrite lands right where the selection was.

Ask AI, answer typed for you
Click into any empty text field, hold right ⌥, and ask. The answer is typed straight at your cursor, no chat window to copy from.
Answers that stick around for follow-ups
AI answers open in a floating deck. Keep several, flip between them, hover one and ask a follow-up that continues its thread. Ask about right now and it runs a focused web search first, sources attached.

A cloud engine, strictly on your terms
AssemblyAI Universal streaming is an opt-in engine with your own API key. Audio uploads only while it's selected. If the connection ever drops mid-dictation, Parakeet finishes it locally. Nothing is ever lost, and local stays the default.
ok so add a function that um retries the api call like three times with backoff and uh log whatever fails
Add a retry wrapper for the API call: 3 attempts with exponential backoff, logging each failure.
AI formatting, tuned to you
Optionally let AI polish raw speech into clean prose before it lands. Or flip on Coding Agent Mode and ramble your way to crisp, structured prompts. Custom instructions welcome.
Dictation · Trigger
Mutes your Mac while you dictate
Recording starts, Mac audio mutes, whether you use push-to-talk, hands-free, or the AI hotkey. Stop, and your previous volume comes right back.
25 languages, auto-detected
Speak whatever comes naturally. The multilingual model recognizes the language as you talk. Override per app if you like.
“open it in Ghostty”
Learns your vocabulary
Correct a word a couple of times and it's quietly added to your dictionary: names, jargon, CLI tools. Changed your mind? Undo it right from the popup.
Two keys, two modes
Dictation lives on right ⌘. Hold it for quick lines, double-tap it for long thoughts. AI commands get their own key (right ⌥), and both remap to any shortcut you like.
Every app, its own rules
Auto-send prompts in Cursor, lowercase in Discord, another language in Obsidian. Settings follow whatever app you're in.

Speak your prompts
Dictate straight into Claude Code, Cursor, or Codex. Insertion is terminal-aware, so text lands cleanly even in a TTY.
“So um, the fix is uh basically simple, you know, just clear the cache”
The fix is simple. Just clear the cache.
Cleans up as it types
Filler words vanish before they ever hit the page, caught on-device with no AI involved. Prefer everything lowercase? There's a switch for that too.

Stats, streaks & milestones
Watch your words pile up, keep the day streak alive, and climb the league ladder from Bronze to Grandmaster. Every dictation is searchable in history, stored on your Mac and nowhere else.
Private by architecture. Dictation is processed on your Mac and never uploaded by default. The opt-in cloud engine runs only when you choose it, with your own key. If it ever fails, the local engine catches the dictation. AI commands go only to the provider you choose, only when you invoke them.

Free, about 100MB, installs in seconds. Drag it to Applications, hold the key, and start talking.
